The Movie Cover Picture…

It is scarce for a Nigerian movie to have so much impact in the country but the film ANIKULAPO broke that trend.

REVIEW OF ANIKULAPO

This movie starred most of the talented actors and actresses in the Nigerian movie industry. It brought back deep memories of the olden day's cultures and traditions that had been neglected.

The title ANIKULAPO means “One who has death in his pouch or purse”.

Anikulapo has a relatively straightforward tale with a less complicated subplot, which makes room for excellent performances and photography.

It’s time to tell our own stories, and Kunle Afolayan, I dare say, is a master at it. The film tells a tale of love, treachery, plotting, and the lives of our ancestors while incorporating magical aspects.

It’s beautiful to watch Kunle Remi and Bimbo Ademoye interact, and it’s amazing how well they both speak Yoruba with the appropriate accent.

Bimbo is such a talented actor that all she needs to do to convey a feeling is to open her eyes; her body language on television is amazing.

Kunle Remi’s maiden step into Yoruba films is beneficial to his acting career and demonstrates his versatility. It is wonderful to see “Baba Ifayemi Elebuibon” here since he is a true living legend whose knowledge of history has to be preserved for future generations.

Kunle Afolayan honors and respects the legends of the Yoruba cinema industry in this movie. Each person is given the right role, and by utilizing their unique skills, they produce a magnificent acting ensemble that evokes memories. This cast of extras for a Yoruba film must be the largest I’ve ever seen, and it perfectly illustrates what life in the villages must have been like back then.

It was a brilliant move by Kunle Afolayan to portray the king of Ojumo as a non-speaking monarch. This eliminated the actor’s need to master Yoruba or otherwise commit linguistic murder, and it also created an air of intrigue around him.

The movie makes no attempt to update the difficulties in the plot. It effectively portrays polygamy, with women giving their husbands priority and all the other challenges associated with such a lifestyle, in both a royal context and an ordinary family.

This film has exceptional and unmatched costumes, makeup, and props. It is a master’s level filmmaking course. One of the best representations of Yoruba myths is found in “Anikulapo”. It is narrated simply, in the same way as how Hollywood tells mythical tales from other cultures.

This movie brought about various reviews both good and bad from viewers who have seen the movie. Common what is a movie without a review whether bad or good.

I enjoyed the movie and I hope y’all enjoy it when you watch it!!!
